In data de 29 octombrie, la Facultatea de Stiinte Economice din Sibiu, a avut loc cea de-a doua editie a evenimentului OSOM – Open Source, Open Mind, un eveniment orientat Free Software, organizat anual de Pensacola Tech si  Omeron Technologies. Scopul acestui eveniment este de a oferi celor interesati (studenti, liberi profesionisti, companii etc) oportunitatea de a prezenta, demonstra si dezbate cele mai recente idei legate de lumea OS/FS totodata asteptandu-se o accelerare a procesului de cercetare si dezvoltare in zona OS/FS din partea companiilor si a institutiilor universitare.

Cea de-a doua editie OSOM s-a bucurat de spijinul oferit de catre Pentalog High Tech care a participat in calitate de sponsor si expozant.

Evenimentul a avut urmatoarele obiective:

 

  • Prezentarea conceptelor generale Open Source si Free Software
  • Prezentarea softului Open Source ca alternativa valida si/sau complementara la softul proprietar
  • Prezentarea unor suite de beneficii pe care le poate aduce adoptarea unor solutii Open Source si Free Software
  • Oferirea unei sanse studentilor si nu numai in vederea posibilitatilor de a folosi si dezvolta programe si tehnologii OS/FS in Romania.

La OSOM au participat peste 50 persoane (studenti si profesionisti în domeniul IT) care, timp de 3 ore, au asistat la 5 prezentari interesante din domeniul FLOSS:

 

  • Open Source Cloud
  • Sibiu Jug Academy Java Open Source technologies for students
  • Mozilla – Make the web a better place
  • Ubuntu – Linux for human beings
  • Magnolia Java Open Source CMS

 

Evenimentul nu a avut o sectiune comerciala ci mai degraba o sectiune a proiectelor si comunitatilor. Reprezentanti din partea Mozilla si Ubuntu Romania au fost anul acesta invitati speciali avand ca scop principal popularizarea comunitatilor Open Source.

La fel ca prima editie si cea de-a doua editie OSOM s-a bucurat de un real succes. Multumim tuturor pentru participare si interesul acordat! Urmatoarea editie va avea loc cel mai probabil la Bucuresti.



 

OSOM – Open Source Open Mind – is an event held annually, organized by  Pensacola Tech and Omeron Technologies. First edition was held on 30th October 2010 at Cluj Napoca, Romania and it was a success. OSOM is design to reveal the general Open Source and Free Software concepts, the differences between the two trends and the types of licenses used in this area, to demonstrate that Open Source and Free Software is a valid replacement or complement to proprietary software.

  • Widely used applications on open systems
  • Open source Caching Solutions
  • Things they say open source tools cannot do…Performance in testing by Jmeter
  • How does the Android Application Platform Work

  • Alternative Solutions for digital graphics

This year OSOM brings community leaders like Mozilla Foundation and Ubuntu to discuss about the hottest topics in FLOSS movement, demonstrating the advantages of adopting, using and developing Open Source and Free Software solutions.
Beyond this, the event tries to promote these open and free concepts in other fields, covering but not limited to, business, media and education.

This is a unique event where you can find the latest trends, learn about new technologies and all the hot topics in IT and Open Source / Free Software.
